Hello all. I have been looking at John Ray's site A Military Gentleman over the last week or two and the range of 22mm SYW he is casting. Does any one know if these figures are going to be placed on sale? I can not find a way to get in touch with John Ray to ask him personally about the figures.... which look fantastic btw. I have 28mm imagi-nation armies and was planning to start a historical 28mm collection but seeing these figures has made me hold off getting 28mm until I can find out more about this range.
I don't know what John's plans are for this range. I couldn't see anything on the blog to indicate that this range would be available commercially (if they are to be, would it not be a good idea to start promoting them now?). I thought I read somewhere that his 30mm figures were exclusive to him. In addition, his book is a limited edition, now sold out, with each copy individually numbered. I have also read that you may only join his forum if you have purchased a copy of the book. It appears, therefore, that John likes exclusivity in which case, is the range intended for him alone, for a limited number of customers only (like the book) or will the exclusivity be expressed by the scale of the range itself (are there any other 22mm 18th Century miniatures manufacturers out there?). Maybe he doesn't know, maybe he likes the speculation. Therefore I wouldn't hold your breath on this. Hopefully, I'm wrong because they are exquisite figures, anatomically very good and, on looks alone, I reckon a comprehensive range of these sculpts should do very well commercially. The painted examples on his blog certainly got me drooling!
I agree with Keith, I doubt these figures will ever be made available to the general wargaming community. To get a good idea of his regards for others please see Der Alte Fritz's posting of 02/05/2017.
