All of my troops are based on 4x2.5” bases. So a battalion of formed infantry is two bases of 16 figures in 25mm and 3 bases of 18 figs in 54mm. We think the measurements for 25mm will work fine, but for 54mm we will change shooting ranges to double. Has anyone else had basing and or measuring issues? Any guidance on battalion frontage of 8” rather than 100mm?

The simplest way to work out alternate basing is that the musket range for line infantry without a battalion gun should be the same as its frontage. If you therefore have units of 8” frontage then musket range is 8” and I would guess, with battalion gun attached something like 13” or 14”.

Thanks Leman. An 8"/20cm frontage is the size I use for all my infantry units, so just use the ranges and distances for the 'standard' 28mm game.

I don't fully understand what the issue is here. Throughout the rules, 25-28mm miniatures are assumed and as fishpaste's 25mm units have the same frontage as the 'standard' rules, the 'standard' 25-28mm scale ranges and measurements should be used (as Keith points out). So, long range for musket ranges with attached battalion gun(s) is the standard 30 cm - i.e., 12 inches (not sure where the 13" or 14" ranges come from, Andy).
For his 54mm units, 3 bases each gives a frontage of 12 inches wide - one and a half times the 'standard' 25-28mm game frontages - so, strictly speaking, he should really consider increasing all 'standard' measurements by 50% for his 54mm unit games and not double as stated by him. I therefore recommend going to the Downloads section and using the “HoW Playsheet: Larger 25-35mm” QRF.
The only issue for fishpaste as far I can see is with unit sizes of only 2 or 3 bases, his march columns will be rather squat compared to 'standard' 5 base units in march column (or in my own case, 4 bases per unit). However, I would suspect that this would not be a major problem for game play.

Not being a 28mm player I was just making a guesstimate (you can surmise that maths is not my strong suit which is why I dislike messing with rules), I am always rather surprised when someone reads through a set of rules and then decides they need changing.
