My friend, Bernie, wanted to use his teddy bear armies for our first game using Keith's rules. Some of you may know that this figure line was made by Eureka Miniatures of Australia. Bernie painted the figurines while I, per his request, created the modified flags for both sides.
I just want to add that we're playing this first game with 4 players aside on a 10.5 X 6 foot table. Some players command 1 brigade of 4–5 units, and some have two brigades. The bases with the teddy bears take up a little more space than my 'human' 28mm SYW units.
Steve, Colin, et al: My friend Bernie heard through a mutual friend that it's rumored that the Eureka Bears will be available again, though maybe through a different owner. I will pass on your accolades to Bernie, which he'll appreciate. The teddies are whimsical…and a hit with some of the wives and children of my gaming friends. Though I will stay with having 'humans' in my SYW armies.
From what I recall, the SYW bears and Toy Town range has had its ownership transferred to the sculptor, Mike Broadbent.
I'm currently producing caricature human SYW figures in 28mm (hopefully ready this year). I've been toying with the idea of converting them into cats in SYW uniforms, etc, later on. Somewhat more diminutive mice would then follow...
I do, too, Grenadier! Here are a few more photos taken of the game that we continued last Monday evening. Note the wounded teddy bear with the stuffing knocked out of him (as Leman put it in another post). The game played very well, and moved at a good pace while we were learning the rules. The players like the rules, and they're willing to use them in our next game which will happen next Monday. When we'll do a new scenario, and using the teddy bears again (much to my friend Bernie's enjoyment).
