Great stuff!
I hope to do Zorndorf some day, but it will be a bath-tub version, likely my basic units being brigades. It's got to fit on a 6 X 4 foot table, and I don't have near as many figures.

Thanks! Nothing wrong with bath-tubbing these big actions. We, in fact, bath-tubbed this version too. BMUs were regiments in this game rather than battalions. Even at the regimental level, Zorndorf is a large battle. HoW works with regiments as BMUs just as well as with battalions. That is quite handy! Jon

As always: your battle Report is detailed and I like your style to analyze every clash.
You asked for opionions about the idea to move Seydlitz such a distance. I think, that it's a good decision. Can they move in column and using the march bonus? I can not see what the Russians could do to counter this move. The only Major Problem for the Prussians could be the massive concentration of infantry - a great target for Russian gazing fire.

Whew! What an absorbing opening phase of the battle - amazing that only 1 regt. apiece is 'done for' after that intense cavalry fight on the Prussian right!
Great report and photographs, as usual, Jonathan. Looking forward to Part 2.

Thank you for your support and your suggestion! You identified a shortfall in Seydlitz' planning! As I mentioned in one of the comment responses on the blog, I forgot to move Seydiltz at march column rate. That would have sped up his arrival onto the right by a turn or two. He is now proceeding to the right in march column and will redeploy once he nears the fighting. He will be arriving at a good moment to reinforce Schorlemmer.

Great report and photographs, as usual, Jonathan. Looking forward to Part 2. Glad you enjoyed the battle, thus far! I am surprised that the destruction of horse was not greater too. Both cavalry commanders did a good job of rotating cavalry into the front to protect those damaged in earlier clashes. The series of charges, counter charges, and unit rotation worked well to limit losses. Thank you for your comments.

Amazing Report. As always, easy to follow all moves and the fighting although I prefer smoke of gunpowder on the table top.
Your AARs and style of photos would be perfect for a 2nd Edition of HoW with amandments and more Scenarios (WAS perhaps) for examples.
