Now, to be honest, quite a few uniforms from the period are represented differently by various artists and authors. I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where we can discuss which was the most likely to be accurate. I'll start the ball rolling with a Russian hussar. In volume 3 of James Woods' uniforms of the Seven Years War (Partizan Press), there is a Knotel illustration of a Russian hussar in blue breeches and jacket with white pelisse and mirliton. However, in his description of the hussars, none of them are described in this uniform. In fact the only one given as wearing the mirliton are the Yellow Hussars. Any thoughts?

Kronoskaf has a couple of regiments of Russian hussars shown as wearing mirletons. The one you are referring to is the Slobodskiy regiment. They also shown the Macedonskiy regiment in red mirletons and breaches and light blue dolman and pelise and the Bolgarskiy and Zyeltski Hussars in yellow. Not all Russian hussars were deployed to the west in the 7YW, and I THINK only Zyelski actually had an active part in the war, as they were involved at Paltzig and Kunersdorf. Of course that doesn't stop anyone, including me, from having the likes of the Slobodskiy and Macedonskiy regts as their uniforms are pretty good.

Thanks for the info Colin. I found the Slobodskiy hussars in Funcken, but again there was no reference as to where they served. I currently only have one unit of mirliton hussars for the Russians, so they will be painted up as the Zyelski. Must remember to use white undercoat on them, yellow being such an awkward colour to get right on figures.

Crikey Colin, they are good. Thanks. I have another 24 as well! Why? No idea but I picked up loads of cheap deals off Foundry years ago.

I will post here my questions about uniform Details.
I found two different flags of the Regiment Clermont-Tonerre: www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=File:Clermont-Tonnerre_Cavalerie_Regimental_Standard.jpg fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9giment_de_No%C3%A9_cavalerie If the yellow flag is from around 1740, than it could be the right flag for WAS.
The other thing is, that the description of the uniforms of the Regiment Clermont-Tonnerre and Clermont are mostly the same. Housings etc. are blue on kronoskaf for Clermont and Clermont-Tonnerre but are buffle or yellow by Gudenus. Gudenus shows a "Trompette de Clermont" with a Turban and silverlace on the red stripes of his livery, what is looking very elegant. So, when both regiments looked nearly the same, than maybe it's the same with the musicians. It would be great because I could not find any informations about the musicians of the Regiment Clermont-Tonnerre.
What do you think about such things?

I search reliable informations about bavarian cavalry before 1745. I know that Max III. reduced his army especialy cavalry. So I can look for pre 1745 cavalry only. OK, there would be only rare occassions to use this cavalry like the defeat at Braunau, 1743, and the catastrophe of Pfaffenhofen.
